Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. How much of the original NCMT program is still intact?
  2. Are there still uniforms, ranks, officers of the day and the like?
  3. How does the intercollegiate fit in with the riding program?

  1. How much of the original NCMT program is still intact?    Back to Top
The program is very much intact. In fact, it has thrived and grown over the years. We have added a comprehensive Equine Care Program, also known as a "Work Day," which is required by all riding students and available as an option to those who prefer not to ride. The program includes daily equine care studies with lectures and hands on application of skills learned in the barn. In addition, NCMT offers scholarships to up to 10% of the membership.

  2. Are there still uniforms, ranks, officers of the day and the like?   Back to Top
Yes, the Troopers wear uniforms at the Review Ceremonies and when they represent NCMT outside of the NCMT grounds. In fact, this year we had some new uniforms made - although we probably still have some from when many alumni were in the program! We have maintained the traditional ranking system that was established by Mrs. Self, and we do have Captains and Tack Sargeants of the day etc... In addition, NCMT has added a Captains Council that works with the officers to help the Cadet Major with the numerous projects and fundraising events we have each year. Even the non-riding, Equine Care Program students participate in the ranking system.

  3. How does the intercollegiate fit in with the riding program?   Back to Top
The intercollegiate program takes place in non cadet program hours. It is a nice addition to our "Adult" program but does not interfere with or change what NCMT is all about. We very much want to maintain the traditions that were established so long ago. That is what sets us apart from all other riding academies.
