New Canaan Mounted Troop Inc. (“NCMT”) mission is to build leadership, responsibility and confidence in youth through sound horsemanship and to enrich the lives of individuals with special needs through equine assisted activities.
The Troopers programs provide both Full Horsemanship and Equine Care instruction through a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience that emphasizes kindness, teamwork, respect, and accountability. Our Troopers (aged 7-17) also develop leadership skills by mentoring younger students and participating in community service. During the year, there are several social and holiday events that nurture friendships within our NCMT family.
The Super Troopers programs provide equine therapeutic services to children and adults with special needs, with the assistance of PATH International certified instructors and dedicated volunteers. NCMT has an ADA compliant facility that successfully accommodates students with disabilities. Troopers aged 14 and older are encouraged to volunteer for Super Troopers.
NCMT exclusively relies on donated horses and ponies to provide our services. Many of them stepped down from successful show careers or came to us through our alumni, donors, and friends. Troopers provides daily assistance to help care for them. This feature alone encourages collaboration between our students. Our barn is open all year, 7 days a week, except holidays.
